Review - Christmas and Other Horrors: An Anthology of Solstice Horror

Christmas and Other Horrors: An Anthology of Solstice HorrorChristmas and Other Horrors: An Anthology of Solstice Horror by Garth Nix
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I started reading stories in this collection randomly and was quickly unnerved.

The writing is phenomenal, but the stories themselves left me feeling "wrong". As in, humanity is awful, people are awful, and I'm not having a good time anymore.

I'm picky about my horror- I prefer spooky supernatural over human psychological. And the first couple of stories I read fell more into the human range. I felt this book just wasn't for me.

But there are so many stories and wonderful authors in this book I had to give it another shot. I love that it doesn't just focus on Christmas but traditions from around the globe including a few set in the southern atmosphere giving us hot holiday tales with a whole new viewpoint of holiday horror.

I'm glad I gave it another try, while many of the stories still left me unnerved there were a few that I thoroughly enjoyed.

If you love horror and the holidays give this unique, all-original collection a try.
