Vampire Makeup Tutorial with Elise Nelson #PNR

 

Hi! I’m Elise Nelson, author of Smoke and Mirrors: A Vampire Romance. 

Today, I want to give you a vampire look for Halloween (or for any day you’re feeling vampiric 😉). 

I’m no good at makeup tutorial videos, but I love makeup, so I will write down some of my favorite products that would create a great vampire look this Halloween. The best part is you can pretty much buy this look at any grocery store that sells makeup—stores like Walmart, Target, or Walgreens. However, for the exact look, you’ll need to also purchase some of the products on the MAC website, or at a location near you (the MAC products can be replaced with your own personal favorites, though, as mentioned below).

Products to get:

L’Oreal carbon black liquid eyeliner
 


L’Oreal Voluminous carbon black mascara OR any mascara and ArdellWispies eyelashes (and your choice of lash glue)
  




L’Oreal Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner in Black Noir
 



MAC cream concealer in your color (or your choice of concealer)



 
L’OrealTRUE MATCH LUMI Glotion (whichever light shade works best for your skin, but I’m fair, so I use (“901 Fair Glow”)


 
MAC Cruella eyeshadow collection palette (or your choice of black, dark green, and maroon or purple eyeshadow.
 


Two small eyeshadow brushes of your choosing. I don’t know the brand of mine, but any two like the two small ones below should work:
 


IL MAKIAGE Lip Slip in Red Brick lipstick (or your choice of red lipstick)



 

Step One: 
Put the concealer under your eyes to brighten them up before you put the dark makeup on.

Step Two:
Line your eyes gently with the L’Oreal Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner in Black Noir. We are going to also lightly line it with the liquid liner too, and if you use too much of this smoldering eyeliner, you’ll look more like a raccoon than a vampire.
You’ll want to create wings with your eyeliner that point up at a high angle (especially if you don’t have big eyes).

Step Three: 
Lightly line your eyes with the liquid liner now to define the eyes more and to perfect the wings.

Step Four: 
Either lightly put a mascara of your choice on your eyes and then place the Ardell wispies on or use the L’Oreal Voluminous carbon black mascara to create the appearance of long, thick lashes that are dark and beautiful.

Step Five:
Next, gently put the L’Oreal TRUE MATCH LUMI Glotion on your eyelids. If you prefer to do this before the eyeliner you can, but I prefer to do it after because it can make it hard to define the eyeliner properly because it makes things a little slick on the eyelids. 

Create a thin layer mostly rubbed in from the top of your eyeliner to your browbone.

Step Six:
Use two different makeup brushes for the eyeshadow, whichever ones you usually use. Any makeup brushes that look like the two smaller ones in the list above will work (I don’t use these brushes, but I don’t know the brand for mine; any good brushes will do):
Use the small makeup brush with the rounded top to put a layer of either the dark red eyeshadow or purple eyeshadow across your lid. I use the purple one. 

Step Seven:
Next, use the small makeup brush with the pointed tip to use either the black eyeshadow in the Cruella palette or the dark, shimmery green one to use on the edges and around near the browbone to create a smokey eye effect. The level of smokey eye is your decision to make, depending on how dark and vampiric you want to look. I choose to use the dark, green shimmery eyeshadow in the Cruella palette.

Step Eight:
Final step. Use whatever red lipstick you prefer to create that perfect blood-red pout that will complete your vampiric look. I use the IL MAKIAGE Lip Slip in Fire Brick for mine. 

Extra Optional Step:
Use the silver in the Cruella makeup palette to add a little sparkle to the corners of your eyes (which I love to do, but if you want to keep your look dark, feel free to skip this step). I just put it on my finger and dab it in the corners.

“You have each been paired with someone in the house whom you will shadow and work with over the next few weeks . . .” her voice trailed off as someone from across the hall caught her eye.

“Ah, here my brother is now. William, dear, come greet our guests!” Her voice was melodic as it moved through the room. She raised a hand above her head, as if to coax her brother over.

I couldn’t see the man in question; I was in the back of the others, and he was coming from the opposite end of the room. But judging from the fact that he hadn’t been there to greet us, and from his silence now, I’d say he was avoiding this very moment. Soon enough, however, I heard footsteps and Evelyn’s jubilant laugh. “Ah, William, please greet our guests. They wondered why the lord of the house wasn’t there to say hello to them when they arrived.”
There was a brief awkward silence, as it was clear that none of us had asked for him, and
William likely knew it. “It’s a pleasure,” he said finally, his deep voice tight with bored insincerity. I tried surreptitiously standing on my toes but still couldn’t see him very well. The men in front of me were blocking my view. I liked to think they weren’t doing it intentionally, but I had my doubts.

I could only see part of his head and one of his shoulders, fitted in what appeared to be an extremely expensive black suit. Despite how new and crisp it looked, as dark and fine as any suit

I’d ever seen, it still wasn’t as beautifully dark as the hair that fell softly on his forehead. Smooth and thick, like the feathers of a crow. His fingers moved through it as he continued.

“Thank you all for coming. We look forward to your stay.” His voice was cavalier, and it was clear he didn’t want to be here, which I found odd. Why wouldn’t the lord of the manor want to greet his new employees and shake our hands? Wasn’t he the one who wanted us here?

My acceptance letter had come from him.

“William is very busy,” Evelyn said, the words rushing from her lips, “but he will be joining us for supper tonight. Isn’t that right?”

There was a small pause before her brother replied. “Yes, of course.” He stepped closer in my direction, and I glimpsed his profile briefly before he turned back one more time and added,

“I will see you all then, and we’ll have a proper greeting. Now, if you’ll excuse me.” He smiled stiffly, and I wondered if anyone else could tell how little he wanted to be here. He was about to turn away when he saw me.

Our eyes locked. The faux mask he’d worn to feign pleasantries disappeared like smoke. His mouth fell partly open, and for a moment, it was as if we knew each other. As if we always had but had just forgotten. Yet, he also seemed so new to me. Like I’d never seen someone who looked quite like him before. Someone whose eyes looked into mine so unabashedly. Someone whose single glance left me breathless. A rush like white-hot fire burned against my skin, and I couldn’t look away. I didn’t know what it was about him, but in his eyes I saw something familiar. As if he were a memory or a dream I’d long forgotten.
