The Lost Boys Halloween Theme Party #TheLostBoys #VampireParty #HalloweenParty

The Lost Boys is one of my favorite vampire movies.

It's a cult classic known for its 80s style and dark humor.

Here's a quick guide to help you create a fang-tastic Lost Boys-themed party with ideas for games, activities, food, drinks, costumes, and decorations.

Decorations:

1. Vampire Lair: Set the mood with a gothic ambiance. Use black and red as the primary colors for your decorations. Hang faux cobwebs, dark curtains, and vampire-inspired artwork.

2. Create a sign that says "Welcome to Santa Carla," the fictional town in the movie, and place it at the entrance of your party area.

3. Coffin Cooler: Use a large coffin-shaped cooler filled with ice to keep drinks cold. Decorate it with Goth style to give it a vampire touch.

4. Bat Decorations: Hang bat cutouts from the ceiling or walls to add to the vampire aesthetic.

5. Movie Posters and Stills: Display movie posters or stills from The Lost Boys around the party area to set the scene.

Costumes:

1. You or your guests could dress up as Sam, Michael, Lucy or Grandpa. Tim Cappello the sax man is another fun costume idea.

2. Encourage guests to dress up as David, Star, Laddie, Marko, Dwayne, Max or any of the other vampires They can wear leather jackets, bandanas, ripped jeans, and fake vampire fangs - don't forget the big 80s hair and mullets.

3. Guests can also dress up the vampire-hunting Frog brothers and wear jeans, boots, bandanas, and carry wooden stakes or crossbow props.

Games and Activities:

1. Vampire Trivia: Test your guests' knowledge of The Lost Boys with a vampire-themed trivia game. Prepare questions about the movie's plot, characters, and memorable scenes.

2. Vampire Fang Decorating: Provide fake vampire fangs and art supplies for guests to decorate their fangs with glitter, paint, or small jewels.

3. "Vampire Hunt" Scavenger Hunt: Set up a scavenger hunt where guests search for hidden vampire-themed items, such as plastic bats or small bottles of "holy water."

4. Vampire Karaoke: Set up a karaoke station with a selection of 80s songs and vampire-inspired tunes. Encourage guests to perform their favorite songs with a vampiric twist.

5. Horror Movie Screening: Set up a cozy area with cushions and blankets for guests to watch a screening of The Lost Boys or other classic horror movies.

Food and Drinks:

1. "Blood Bag" Refreshments: Serve red-colored drinks in IV bags or blood bag-style pouches. Label them as "Vampire's Delight" or "Blood of the Innocent."

2. "Garlic-Free Zone" Snacks: Offer an array of snacks that are garlic-free to avoid vampires. This can include popcorn, pretzels, chips, and Halloween-themed finger foods.

3. "Steak" Bites: Serve bite-sized steak skewers or sliders as a nod to the vampire hunters' preference for steak over garlic.

4. "Vampire Kiss" Cupcakes: Decorate cupcakes with red icing and place a chocolate kiss candy on top to resemble vampire kisses.

Be sure to have The Lost Boys soundtrack playing for the perfect ambiance. A few of my favorite songs from the movie are People Are Strange by Echo & the Bunnymen, Cry Little Sister by Gerard McMahon, and I Still Believe by Tim Cappello.

Flash Fiction by S. Peters-Davis #ParanormalSuspense #ParanormalRomance

Only After Dark

By S. Peters-Davis

An SPI (Spectral Paranormal Investigations) shorty starring

Bri Lancaster and Kyle Benton of the Ghost Guardian Team.

“Thank goodness you arrived before dark.” Mr. Woodard strode toward the vast barn. The double doors lay on the ground about fifteen feet from the gaping doorframe. Shattered glass streamed a path from the blown-out windows to about twenty feet out, and so many pieces of straw around the barn had the green grass looking golden. “I’m assuming James from SPI relayed everything about what happened, and you’re here to capture the entity creating havoc.”

“Yes. We’re on a deadline for your upcoming Halloween Party to happen inside the barn.” Kyle grabbed my hand. “How’s the worker that fell from the ten-foot ladder?”

“You mean got pushed off the ladder. He’s fortunate he didn’t break his back, but he did bust an arm and a leg from his fall.” Mr. Woodard glanced at our vehicle parked a distance away. “I’m assuming you have equipment inside that SUV. You can drive it up and unload it, but I wouldn’t leave it parked too close to the barn if you don’t want it damaged.”

* * *

Kyle and I unloaded everything we needed, made a circle trail of lavender and sea salt in the center of the barn, and positioned several smoky crystal and amethyst stones around to help relax the highly negative energy pressing against me.

“Bri, are we all set?” Kyle set the recorder next to a wall, which would record any sound and energy readings inside the barn.

“Do you have a taper candle and lighter?”

“Yep, all set.”

I glanced out the double door opening. “Get ready. Light the taper and point it toward the middle of the circle.”

Kyle handled it like a pro.

I lit mine and said, “Guardian angels of everyone inside this barn, ministry of healing angels, ministry of sensitive emotions angels, we call upon you. Come now.”

Shimmering light bodies dropped through the ceiling, landing silently around the circle, and several landed around Kyle and me.

Suddenly the barn turned back in time, I guessed at least eighty or more years ago. A rope hung from a beam in the center of our trail circle, swinging as if someone were hanging from it. A woman appeared, staring at the rope. A terrifying scream came out of her mouth, along with an unsettling force of wind. “Why? Why? Why did you kill my William? He’s done nothing but keep this farm running. What would make you do this?”

I could only see the woman, no one else.

Then she saw me, her eyes settling on mine as she drifted closer. “What are you doing here? Did you kill my husband?” Her face blurred, becoming something far more like Halloween, with lips spreading wider than they should. Teeth lengthened and became pointed. Her body puffed up, and her fingernails elongated, acting like claws. “I will slit your throat!”

Just then, the shimmering angels gathered around her, shielding her.

“Bri, what’s happening? Your face tells me something bad is going down.” Kyle stood across the circle from me, staring and still pointing his taper toward the woman he couldn’t see. “Tell me what to do.”

“The angels are handling it, but I need another. Stay put.” Then I called, “Mother Earth, I call upon you. Come now.” Greenish gold light came up from the floor beside me, and suddenly, Mother Earth, with her tree-limbed arms and legs and leafy hair and clothing, stood right beside me.

“Yes, my child. You’ve summoned me, but I believe the angels are what Annetta requires to take her where she belongs. William and their eight children await her in the light realm.”

A deep and masculinevoice said, “Annetta, darling, we are waiting for you to join us.”

The angels moved away, leaving a stunned, beautiful Annetta alone. “William?”

An elongated shimmering light unfolded into a brilliant doorway in front of Annetta. The manly voice called to her along with children’s voices. Her Guardian Angels surrounded her and walked her through the door. The doorway folded in on itself and diminished into nothing but an electric pop. Then all the remaining shimmering bodies lifted and disappeared through the ceiling.

“She’s gone, Kyle.”

He blew out his candle and turned on his cell phone flashlight, checking around the room. He walked to me.

“Just a moment, Kyle.” I turned to Mother Earth, who had remained beside me. “What happened?”

“William was accused of stealing from some of the neighboring farms. A group of farmers came and hung him for it. Then they burned the house down with all their children inside. Annetta had entered the barn when the house went ablaze, and she had no idea as her full attention stayed on her husband’s body hanging from a rope. She lost everything that night and lay down with her husband’s body. She let herself die of a devastated broken heart. Thank you for helping her find her place after such a long wait.” Mother Earth shimmered into golden and green particles that spun and disappeared through the floor.

Tears rolled unchecked down my face. I couldn’t imagine that kind of devastation. I repeated what happened to Kyle, hoping he understood it because I couldn’t stop blubbering.

“A woman created all this craziness, terrifying everyone and pushing a man off a ladder?” His mouth dropped open.

“What a mother wouldn’t do for her husband and eight children…”

“Eight kids?” He pulled me into his arms and squeezed me close. “You aren’t going to want eight kids, right?”

“Can you imagine all the Halloween candy we’d have with that many kids?”

We looked at each other, wide-eyed with a full moon brightening the barn interior, and then we broke down giggling our butts off, happy as ever that our night ended as it did.

Bri’s point of view

“We’re fine but a bit rattled.” Kyle glanced at me and then back at his father. “Sorry for the late visit, but I wanted you to hear what happened firsthand. Let’s sit at the kitchen table.” Kyle grabbed my hand and pulled me to a chair.

Miles shook his head as he pulled off his outside gear and settled into a chair across from Kyle and me. “I had no idea the weather would turn into a snowstorm, more like a blizzard. It took some time for you to get back here, didn’t it?” Without waiting for an answer, he continued,

“Sorry about that. Glad you made it without incident.”

“Well, about that…” Kyle nodded toward me. “Tell Dad everything.”

I did, not leaving out the woman in the window or the scary-looking man in the mansion doorway, or how the appearance of the building went back in time to brand new. Nor did I skip describing the sign I saw that disappeared or the distance we’d driven when we saw the last two women and how something must be keeping them stuck there.

“Wow, I had no idea that kind of history was attached to the old mansion. It makes me think of the bordello stories my grandparents shared. Turned out more of a horror story.” Miles stared at me. “Did you open doors to any of the rooms upstairs?”

“None. The vibe came across as pure evil.” A chill zipped up my spine like a sawblade, making me shiver, and my eyes slammed shut. Everything went dark.

Then suddenly, I popped back to the mansion, reliving each moment there. Only this time, my trip ended with me standing in front of the black-eyed man at the door. His arms reached toward me. My paralyzed body couldn’t move as he grabbed my shoulders with stabbing force. I said, “I have no fear,” repeating the mantra. His mouth stretched open, long and wide, and his pointed teeth lengthened. The familiar stench coated my face, the same as my earlier visit. Then I said, “I am filled with love and light; the Divine is my shield.” Before I could repeat the mantra, his mouth closed, and he vanished into a cloud of black smoke.

Voices called my name, echoing inside my brain until I forced my eyes open to Kyle’s handsome face. His warm hands released each side of my head.

“What happened to you? It’s like you passed out in the chair, then after a bit, you’re repeating a mantra. Dad and I hollered your name, but you couldn’t hear us.” Kyle studied my face. “You did pass out, didn’t you?”

“I’ve never experienced anything like what just happened. I’m not sure how it happened, but I returned to the mansion and got a good picture of that man’s appearance. I believe his clothing dates back to that of the 1885 plaque. That’s a starting point for research of when the place was built and who owned it.” My heart beat like a mountain of drums in my chest. “Some horrific trauma must have happened to that man to make him so vile. He wanted to hurt me, maybe even kill me.”

Witchy Wednesday- Preparing for Hekate's Deipnon

Hekate's Deipnon (also known as Hekate's Supper) is a ritual observance that honors the goddess Hekate in ancient Greek religion. The Deipnon is typically observed on the last day of each lunar month, which is the time of the dark moon.

The Hellenic lunar month begins with the new moon, the first sliver of light we see, and ends with the dark moon, when we see no light from the moon at all.  Our next dark moon should be July 17.

Hekate’s Deipnon is a time of purification. Practioners often ritually cleanse themselves, their homes, and their affairs.

During the Deipnon it is customary to offer food, drink, and other offerings to Hekate as a way of appeasing her and warding off any negative or malevolent spirits that might be present such as the restless dead.  The offerings would be placed at a crossroads, which was considered a liminal space that was sacred to Hekate.

The Deipnon was also seen as a time for people to cleanse their homes and themselves of any impurities or negative energies that might have accumulated over the course of the month.

This was typically done by sweeping the floors and disposing of any leftover food or offerings that had been made to the gods.

The Deipnon ritual typically involves making offerings of food, drink, and other items to Hekate, as well as performing a ritual cleansing of the home and oneself. Some practitioners also choose to perform divination or other forms of magic during the Deipnon. Donations of food, money, or time at local charities are also becoming a popular way to honor Hekate.

Cleanse your home and yourself and complete any other tasks before sundown on the Deipnon.

Consume your meal make sure to set aside some to be used as an offering for Hekate.

Try to leave your offerings at Sundown. Place them directly on the ground or on some other natural substance in nature.  You don't want plates or bowls to retrieve later. Everything should be left for Hekate, never to return to your home. The traditional location is at a crossroads. You can also leave them at another liminal space such as a shoreline, a cemetery gate, a garden gate, at a bridge, any place that is an entry or exit to another location, or any place that is an in between....

Popular Deipnon offerings to Hekate include:

  • Garlic
  • Raw eggs, still in their shell
  • Leeks
  • Onions
  • Fish
  • Bread or cakes
  • Sweepings from the home
  • Anything you don’t want to take into the new month

Cleaning remains are offered as a way to symbolically ask Hekate to bring transformation and renewal to our lives.  One of Hekate's epithets is Borborophorba,  the eater of filth. This title is a connection between the "womb and tomb". Hekate takes in that which is unclean so it can be born anew.

Ritual

Set up your altar to Hekate, using images or statues of the goddess. You can also use symbols that represent her such as keys, torches, owls, dogs, snakes, and Hekate's wheel.

Prepare the food offerings by placing them on a plate or other container. Offerings might include eggs, garlic, bread, honey, cheese, fruit, and wine. If you are leaving the offerings outside do not leave any items behind other than consumables.

Take the food offerings to a crossroads or other liminal space, and leave them there as an offering to Hekate.

Return to your altar and light the candles and incense and offer a prayer or invocation to Hekate, asking for her protection and guidance during the coming lunar month. (Or you may light candles and incense at the location of your offering). If you have specific requests such as prosperity or good health now is the time to ask for her blessings.

Offer a final prayer of thanks to Hekate and close the ritual by blowing out the candles.

Ritual for Hekate's Deipnon without Dinner

Materials

Candles (black, white, and/or red)

Incense (such as myrrh, frankincense, or sage)

Offerings (bread, honey, cheese, fruit, wine, or other food items)

A small dish or bowl for offerings

A broom or other symbol of purification

A key, torch, or other symbols of Hekate

Preparation

Set up an altar to Hekate in a quiet, darkened space. Include images or statues of the goddess, candles, and other items that are meaningful to you.

Place the offerings on a plate or in a small dish on the altar.

Light the candles and incense, and allow them to burn throughout the ritual.

Hold the broom or other symbol of purification in your hands.

Ritual

Begin by taking a few deep breaths and centering yourself. Visualize a protective circle around you and your altar.

Hold up the broom and say: "I cleanse this space and myself of any negativity or impurities. Let the light of Hekate shine through and guide us."

Use the broom to sweep the floor around the altar, visualizing any negative energies being swept away.

Hold up the key or torch and say: "Hekate, great goddess of the crossroads, I offer these symbols to you as a sign of my devotion and reverence."

Approach the altar and place the key or torch next to the offerings.

Lightly touch the offerings with your fingers or the palm of your hand, and say:

"Hekate, accept these offerings that I have prepared for you. I give them freely and with gratitude for your protection and guidance."

Spend some time in quiet contemplation or meditation, allowing yourself to connect with the energy of Hekate.

When you feel ready, say a prayer or make a personal request to Hekate. This might be for guidance, protection, or other specific needs.

Conclude the ritual by thanking Hekate for her presence and guidance. Blow out the candles and extinguish the incense, and open the protective circle.

Consider leaving the offerings at a crossroads or other liminal space as an offering to Hekate, or consume them yourself as a sacred meal.

“For a relic dug out of the sand of Egypt, she looks fresh. Other than her severed head, there is not a flaw or mark on her.”

“Oui, the paint is as bright is if she were just made.”

“Jean François, it does not look like paint, but flesh. Her breast can be seen under the garment as if real.” The young man gaped at the beautifully formed plump stone mounds and erect, peach-toned nipples straining against the sculptured linen draped over her voluptuous body.

“Mon dieu, she is stone, Ricard.” Jean François’s admiration locked on her breasts as well. “Yet so beautiful.”

“Let us look at her whole for but a moment.” Ricard took a deep breath, then set the statue’s severed head onto its neck, positioning it until if fit like two pieces of a puzzle.

Ricard stepped back as his gaze devoured the entire woman, though stiff and lifeless. The stone looked like lush, sun-warmed skin. Her oval face was dark and delicate, with full, rosy lips. He admired her long, lithe body, clad in a sheer, white, sleeveless dress, held up only by two delicate linen shoulder straps. He longed to roam his fingers and lips over her high perched breast and the thin waist that flared into curved hips and lithe thighs. Then, down to her pretty legs and her slender feet garbed in white papyrus sandals, of the station she depicted, an Egyptian priestess of the Middle Kingdom. He drank in her beauty, then he noticed the ornament lying in the valley between her breasts, a thick ankh of gold hung from a chain.

His fingers absently tried to grab hold of the necklace, but it was only part of the statue, no matter how real it seemed. “What is this?” He looked at the plaque in the statue’s stone hands, held beneath the ankh. The last hieroglyphic depicted the symbol for life, an ankh, held up to the woman’s nose.

Ricard read it silently, sounding it out, Nce xarp wt pwwne Ab etoot abrem... Toujo Abrem etoot pwwne ab... xarp wt au ai ankh qe, and translated it under his breath. “God Horus, as you turned my flesh to stone...God Horus, save me, make me whole...change my stone to flesh...give me the nose breath of life,

The room vibrated and an unnatural wind swirled within. Ricard’s hair stood on end, but he could not tear his eyes away from the statue. He grabbed the ankh, and this time it gave way, lifting from the statue’s chest. The curiosity that drove him as a scientist, as an Egyptologist, caught hold and as strange as this all seemed, he felt he had come this far, he had to see it through. Laying the ankh against the statue’s small nose, Ricard acted out the last hieroglyphic on the plaque.

He shuddered at the sound of a gush of breath. A flash of light struck inside the room. The shock knocked the breath out of him. The stone statue moved, but she wasn’t stone anymore. Jean François gasped and stepped back. Ricard couldn’t move.

It’s a living, breathing woman.

Witchy Wednesday a Quick Intro to Hekate

Hekate is my main Goddess. There are others that I have relationships with but she is the main one.

She is known as a powerful goddess in Greek mythology associated with magic, witchcraft, crossroads, and the underworld. Her worship has a long history, and she is still venerated by many modern Pagans and Witches.

There are many ways you can honor Hekate in your daily life.

Here are a few suggestions:

Create an altar or sacred space dedicated to Hekate. You can decorate it with images of the goddess, candles, crystals, or other objects that are meaningful to you and represent Hekate's energy. Some of her symbols are keys, torches, owls, dogs, snakes, and Hekate’s wheel. Her colors are red, black and white.

Offerings and prayers. You can offer Hekate libations of wine, honey, or other beverages, or burn incense in her honor. You can also say prayers or recite hymns to her. You can find many resources online that offer examples of prayers and hymns to Hekate.

Incorporate Hekate into your daily rituals. For example, you can light a candle for her at the start of your day or say a prayer to her during your meditation.

Study and learn about Hekate. Reading about her mythology, history, and associations can deepen your understanding and connection to her. You can also explore different aspects of her energy, such as her role as a goddess of magic, the underworld, or crossroads.

Do acts of service in her name. Hekate is often associated with acts of service, particularly those that help people who are marginalized or in need. You can volunteer your time or resources to charitable organizations, or simply practice kindness and compassion towards those around you.

Here's a simple devotional to Hekate that you can use in your personal practice:

Hail, Hekate, goddess of magic and mysteries!

You who walk the crossroads and hold the keys to the underworld,

I honor you with this devotional.

You are the torchbearer who illuminates the path,

the guide who leads us through the darkness.

With your wisdom and your power,

I seek your guidance and your blessings.

I offer you this incense, this candle, this libation,

as a token of my reverence and love.

May your presence be felt in my life,

may your light shine upon me always.

Hekate, hear my prayers and accept my offerings,

as I honor you on this day and every day.

Hail Hekate, queen of the night,

I honor you and give you praise.
